Congratulations Rachel Heideman

2023 Teacher of the Year

Rachel Heideman interviewed in 2020 for the position of ESL teacher at Matoaca High. She exuded positivity and enthusiasm, making her the clear top candidate for the position as we welcomed our English learners back home. She continued to demonstrate this same level of spirit in every moment moving forward. From welcoming families of English learners at our inaugural back-to-school event, to collaboratively teaching in multiple subject areas, to providing one-on-one and small group tutoring, Rachel is a ray of educational sunshine and an incredible resource for our students, school and community.

Congratulations Jocelyn Powell

2022-2023 Teacher of the Year

Jocelyn Powell is a tremendous educator with a can-do attitude who has provided unequivocal value and been a true inspiration to the entire Warrior family. The atmosphere she creates within her classrooms is one in which students are free to explore who they are, growing as learners and individuals in the scary and exciting environment of a high school. When faced with the challenge of finding ways to engage all students and immerse them into the culture of Matoaca, Ms. Powell brainstormed and designed campaigns with our SPIRIT mentors and Sources of Strength Team to engage the mind and body, sparking creativity, positivity and a sense of pride.
