In middle school, students can begin to extend their learning based on their individual interests. Middle school academics offer a variety of pathways, particularly with mathematics and science education. This is the first time students will have the opportunity to explore elective classes in areas such as music, foreign languages, technology and more. Students will also begin to see options for honors courses. While not all electives are offered in every school, the CCPS Program of Studies details what could be available for middle school students.
All eighth grade students finish middle school with an academic and career plan based on career pathway interests. Middle school counselors help to identify specialty center and career and technical center opportunities that align with their academic and career planning. Parents are invited to review student class choices each year and may contact their student’s school counselor to discuss options and ask questions.
