Virginia’s only high school winner in a contest sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is a rising sophomore at Bird High School in the Governor’s Academy for Engineering Studies. Charlotte W. earned a third place prize of $1,500 in the EPA’s Pollution Prevention Works: A Storytelling Challenge for Students. Each year, freshmen engineering students select a competition to enter. Charlotte chose the EPA contest and created an infographic detailing how a company switched to more sustainable materials in its production system and improved its recycling efforts.
