Virginia’s only high school winner in a contest sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is a rising sophomore at Bird High School in the Governor’s Academy for Engineering Studies. Charlotte W. earned a third place prize of $1,500 in the EPA’s Pollution Prevention Works: A Storytelling Challenge for Students. Each year, freshmen engineering students select a competition to enter. Charlotte chose the EPA contest and created an infographic detailing how a company switched to more sustainable materials in its production system and improved its recycling efforts.
Matoaca High created connections at the start of Hispanic Heritage Month as students fluent in Spanish taught culinary students how to make pupusas.
