Offering something for every student’s individual interests


High school academics are comprehensive, offering something for every student’s individual interests. Students continue their learning through robust electives as well as core content areas, customizing their learning to align with their career or post-secondary goals. Workplace learning opportunities allow students to further explore their pathways of interest. As coursework continues to become more advanced, credentialing opportunities also become available. In high school, students may also earn college credit through Advanced Placement, dual enrollment and International Baccalaureate courses.

High school course offerings range from world languages to career and technical education to classes in fine arts like band, orchestra, chorus, visual art and photography. While not all courses are offered in every school, the CCPS Program of Studies details what could be available for high school students with very specific course descriptions, including course descriptions for specialty centers and career and technical education classes. Courses are chosen to align with student career goals and unique offerings are available in every content area. Parents are invited to review student course choices each year and may contact their student’s counselor to discuss options and ask questions.

Students transition to high school with an academic and career plan developed in eighth grade. Counselors work with students each year to refine their plan for meeting testing and graduation requirements. They help students explore elective course opportunities to develop a schedule that meets educational needs and reflects their interests and post-secondary goals, based on the diploma type they choose.
