Monacan History Club

Name of Club/Activity

Monacan History Club

Overview

History Club is a student interest organization designed and run by students who are lovers of history and have a passion for the past. We do a variety of activities including historical discussions, watching historical documentaries, having guest speakers, and watching movies based on historical events. The discussion and documentary topics are chosen by students. The movies are also chosen by students.

Highlights

In November, the club hosts a guest speaker that is a veteran of a conflict that the United States had been involved in for a discussion. In December we commemorate Pearl Harbor and American involvement in WWII. We will have at least two visits or activities with the Virginia War Memorial and at least one visit or activity with the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, the Valentine Museum and the Virginia Holocaust Museum. Students are also invited to participate in the Virginia War Memorial Veterans Day essay contest, the Virginia Holocaust Museum Art Contest and to create a National History Day project.

Time Commitment

We meet twice a month on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday in room 120 from 3:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Occasionally if we are watching a historical movie, we will meet longer.
