The SCMS cheerleading team is a program that is primarily dedicated to representing the SCMS community by cheering for their sports teams, competing at competitions, and being exemplary role models to their peers by developing leadership, teamwork, goal setting, and responsibility skills. They also develop physical skills such as stunting, jumping, and tumbling to improve endurance and strength.

The team placed 1st in the 2024 Chesterfield County Cheerleading Competition! They also placed 3rd in 2023 and 5th in 2022 and 2020. 

There is no pre-season conditioning or clinics.

For the 2024-25 school year, the season will begin on August 29th and will end after the annual county middle school cheerleading competition in February of 2025. There are boys and girls  basketball games, weekly after school practices, and other possible time commitments that cheerleaders are required to attend. 

For the 2024-2024 squad, dates for tryouts have been set for May 20-23 in our main gym from 4-6:30 p.m. (Rising 6th graders can arrive by 4:30 due to their dismissal times.)

• A sports physical, concussion form, and tryout packet must be submitted on or before the first day of tryouts.

• The physical must have taken place after May 1st of 2024.

• We will select up to twenty cheerleaders (16 on the competition team and up to 4 alternates).

• The finalized team will be posted on the front door of SCMS by 7am on May 24th.
