Girls' Basketball

A girl shooting a basketball during a game

Team Overview

Our program will be known for it’s emphasis on fundamentals, player development and defensive principles. The philosophy of SCMS girls’ basketball is centered around the idea that our program should be preparing student-athletes to play for and impact their high school programs. We want to give them the cornerstones of basketball fundamentals so that they can build as high as they choose or are willing to go with their “hoop dreams”.

Team Highlights

SCMS has been fortunate to have high caliber student-athletes who help make us a competitive program year in and year out.

Pre-season

There will be no organized pre-season at the middle school level. Students are welcome and advised to work on their game individually prior to school starting.

Season Information

The season is highlighted by eight regular season games and then a playoff if we qualify.

Tryout Information

Tryouts will begin immediately after school at 2:15 p.m. on August 29, and end at 4:15 p.m. Parents should plan on picking their daughters up precisely at 4:15 p.m.. The inability to provide timely transportation for your daughter may play an impactful role on the child’s ability to make the team. Tryouts will conclude on August 31, with a cut down day taking place on August 30 (if necessary). Final cuts will be made on August 31. Student-athletes will be marked on the following criteria:
1) Speed/ quickness
2) Aggressiveness/Intensity
3) Ball Handling
4) Passing
5) Shooting/Lay ups
6) Defensive capabilities
A low score in one area does not mean a student-athlete won’t make the team. We are looking for the solid, all-around players who bring a focused, hard-working, competitive mindset to the court. At the end of tryouts, students who did not make the team will be given feedback so they can address their weaknesses and prepare themselves to tryout for next season.
