Dr. John Phillips, Principal

The 2023-2024 school year will mark Dr. Phillips’ twenty-second year in public education and his fifth as the proud Principal of Clover Hill High School. He is originally from the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania, a graduate of Millersville University, with a Bachelors of Science in Education. His career as an educator began in Stafford County, Virginia as an English teacher and a coach. After relocating to the Richmond area, Dr. Phillips spent twelve years with Henrico County Public Schools, serving as a teacher, head football coach, assistant principal, and associate principal. He resides in Chesterfield with his wife, who is a high school counselor with CCPS, and his two sons, who both attend Chesterfield County Public Schools.

Chris Szybisty, Associate Principal

Mr. Szybisty originally hails from the state of Michigan where he graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in Mathematics; after graduation, he moved south with his wife to Chesterfield, VA.

Mr. Szybisty spent the first 7 years of his educational career as a math teacher at Matoaca High School and Clover Hill High School where he taught everything from Algebra 1 and Geometry to AP Calculus BC and Linear Algebra. From there, Mr. Szybisty went to Cosby High School where he served as Dean of Students for 2 years and Assistant Principal for 5 years. While at Cosby, he earned his master’s degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University and began his doctoral studies in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Virginia Tech.

Mr. Szybisty is excited to return to Clover Hill High School as Associate Principal. He enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, and he is an avid fan of the University of Michigan and all Detroit sports.

Roscoe Johnson, Assistant Principal

Mr. Johnson graduated from Eastern Mennonite University in Harrisonburg, Virginia where he played baseball and earned a Bachelor’s degree in History.  He began his educational career in Staunton, VA teaching History and coaching football.  During that time, he went to James Madison University and earned his endorsement in Special Education.  After spending fifteen years in the Shenandoah Valley,  he relocated to Mechanicsville, Virginia to become the head football coach at Atlee HIgh School where he was also a special education teacher and driver’s education instructor. 

Mr. Johnson earned a Master of Arts degree in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University while at Atlee.  Before joining CHHS, Mr. Johnson was with Henrico County schools as an Administrative Intern.  This is Mr. Johnson‘s 27th year in education, and his third year at Clover Hill High School.  

Mr. Johnson has two daughters in the Shenandoah Valley and a son at Longwood University.  He resides in Chesterfield County with his wife who is a teacher in Chesterfield County.

Cherel White, Assistant Principal

Mrs. White has been in public education for twenty-three years. Four years in Prince George’s County, Maryland as a business teacher, one year in Petersburg, Virginia as a business teacher, and eighteen years in Chesterfield County, Virginia. Eight years as a business teacher, three years as a Dean of Students, and seven years as an Assistant Principal. This will be her sixth year at Clover Hill High School as an Assistant Principal.

Mrs. White graduated from Virginia State University with a BS in Hotel/Restaurant and Institutional Management. She received her Master’s from Strayer University in Accounting. Lastly, she completed her Education Specialist in Education Leadership through Liberty University.

Mrs. White is the proud parent of JaCory and the proud grandmother to Zuriyah. She and her husband John, reside in Dinwiddie.

Hope Collins, Dean of Students

Mrs. Hope Collins joined the Cavalier family as the Dean of Students in the Spring of the 21-22 school year. Prior to making her way to the Hill, she held the title of Coordinator of Assessment and Remediation for Tomahawk Creek Middle School. She has also been an instructional leader as well as a math educator for several Chesterfield County Schools. 

Mrs. Collins graduated from Longwood University with BS in Education and a minor in mathematics. She holds a Master’s from Virginia Commonwealth University in Interdisciplinary Studies, which gained her the title of Mathematics Specialist. Lastly, she recently completed her Administration and Supervision endorsement through Longwood University.

Mrs. Collins is the proud parent of two grown children, Victoria and Andrew. She and her husband, Michael, reside in Amelia and are huge supporters of the Liverpool Football Club. Go Reds!

Nathan Henry, Math & Science High School Coordinator

Mr. Henry is excited to kick off his fifth year as Coordinator of the Math & Science Specialty Center and sixteenth year at Clover Hill High School.  The 2023-2024 school year marks his twenty-sixth year navigating the evolving nature and approaches of education.  Growing up in Maryland, Mr. Henry attended McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland College) where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a Minor in Secondary Education.  Upon graduation, he taught Special Education for three years while earning Masters of Science in Special Education from ODU.  Over the course of twenty-one years before transitioning to his current role, he taught a variety of history subjects from the self-contained setting to AP US History and Historical Research in the MathSci Specialty Center before being named its coordinator in 2019.

Mr Henry resides in Chesterfield County with his wife Christine, also a teacher in Chesterfield County, and their three sons.  Their oldest son attends Moravian University (PA), their middle son is a senior in high school, and their youngest son is an eighth grader in middle school.

David Zyglocke, Activities Director

Mr. Zyglocke is beginning his seventh year as the Director of Student Activities for Clover Hill High School. He is a graduate of Monacan High School, Class of 2021, and has taught and coached in CCPS for over twenty years. He is looking forward to another great year on the Hill.

Tripp Lawson, School Counseling Coordinator

Mr. Lawson is a graduate of Clover Hill High School, class of 1996. After graduating from CHHS Mr. Lawson attended Virginia Commonwealth University where he earned a BS in Criminal Justice. In 2000, Mr. Lawson joined the Virginia Army National Guard and served until September 2008. During Mr. Lawson’s time in the National Guard he returned to VCU to earn his Master of Education/Counselor Education degree. This is Mr. Lawson’s 18th year as a school counselor in CCPS and his 12th year at CHHS serving as the School Counseling Coordinator. Both Mr. Lawson and his wife (Christine) serve as school counselors in Chesterfield County while raising two happy and healthy children.

Kelly Shupe, Coordinator of Special Education and Transition Planning

Mrs. Shupe is a Richmond-area native, graduating from Mills Godwin High School’s Math, Science, and Technology Center in 2009. After graduating, she attended the College of William and Mary where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Kinesiology. Following her passion to support adults and children with disabilities, Mrs. Shupe earned her Master of Education degree with a speciality in Severe Disability Special Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. Before coming to Clover Hill, she worked in Henrico County for nine years as a low-incidence special education teacher. This will be her eleventh year in education and second as the coordinator of special education. She and her husband live in Henrico with their cat.
