As of Oct. 28, CCPS students in grades 3-12 have attended more than 3,000 free, online tutoring sessions via Stride Tutoring since the service again became available at the beginning of October. Stride Tutoring was previously offered to students during the 2023-34 school year thanks to federal pandemic recovery funding, however, that funding ended June 30, 2024.
“We have seen first hand that offering support in this format is effective in meeting students where they are and helping them succeed in areas where they need help. That is why it was important to find a way to continue offering the service,” said Interim Superintendent Dr. John Murray. “We are glad to see so many students taking advantage of this opportunity while it is available to them.”
CCPS is now using funds from the Virginia Department of Education’s ALL In initiative as well as other funding sources to provide Stride Tutoring sessions to students for free. Funding is limited, but Stride sessions may be booked for students as long as funds are available.
Through Stride Tutoring, students and parents may reserve time for online video meetings with a U.S.-based teacher of their choice, licensed in specific areas of knowledge. Scheduling is flexible, with time slots available on evenings and weekends to fit the needs of families. Students do not need a teacher referral or recommendation to receive tutoring.
The platform provides a robust, interactive experience for learners. Students can communicate with tutors and share related assignments, as well as collaborate with tools such as a digital whiteboard, cloud recording, screen sharing, breakout rooms, real-time notes, live quizzes and more.
This service also allows parents and guardians to easily take an active role in the tutoring process. Through the tutoring portal, there are options to connect with their child’s tutor before and after sessions, as well as track their progress with lesson plans, session recaps and more.
