Inclement Weather

Stay informed! When there is inclement weather or other emergencies, it may be necessary to close schools, have a delayed opening or early release. Families should have a plan in place for times when this occurs.

When decisions must be made about school closures or delays, the number one priority is the safety of students and staff. Chesterfield Schools staff members stay in close communication with the Virginia Department of Transportation and Chesterfield County officials to evaluate conditions.

When there is a school closing, delay, or early dismissal, this information will be shared in these ways:

  • an alert will be posted to the division website
  • the message will be posted on the CCPS division wide social media channels (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter)
  • email and text messages will be sent to families who receive division wide messages

Please note that due the large number of email notifications that are sent in these instances, there may be a delay between the time an alert is posted to the website and social media and when an email is received.

School officials will make decisions regarding closures and delays as early as possible to allow families time to make plans. However, there are times when there is too much uncertainty to make an early determination. When this happens, decisions are typically made by approximately 4:30 a.m.

When Chesterfield County Public Schools are closed due to inclement weather, transportation is not provided to Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School, Appomattox Regional Governor’s School and CodeRVA Regional High School.
