Administrative appointments Superintendent Merv Daugherty introduced these new administrators:

Awards and recognitions Congratulations to the Midlothian High girls volleyball team for winning its first state championship. Congratulations to Elijah Cramer and James Bland, two Cosby High students, for winning individual boys wrestling championships. They both were coached by Mike Stefanko.

Four beginning teachers were recognized as the best among their peers. There were 37 nominees for the Beginning Teacher of the Year award, which recognizes educators who are immediate game changers in their schools. Below are this year’s Beginning Teachers of the Year:

  • Katie Ferrell, who teaches fourth grade at Hopkins Elementary, is the Elementary School Beginning Teacher of the Year.
  • Sofia Perez, who teaches English at Salem Church Middle, is the Middle School Beginning Teacher of the Year.
  • Clayton Chadwick, who teaches social studies at Clover Hill High, is the High School Beginning Teacher of the Year.
  • Hannah Epps, who teaches first grade at Ecoff Elementary, is the overall CCPS Beginning Teacher of the Year.

Congratulations to the second cohort of Mirror Me participants, who were selected this spring:

  • Meadowbrook High: Beanca Garcia Martinez; Nastasia Haule; Morgan Johnson; Jada Key; Emani Lane; and Shania Stephens

Two Mirror Me students have completed college and accepted teaching positions with Chesterfield County Public Schools:

  • Dismerlin Ridriguez Lugo graduates this month from VCU and will begin teaching in August at Beulah Elementary
  • Najah Jones graduated in December 2022 from VSU and began teaching at Curtis Elementary in January of this year

The School Board added three community partners to the Business Honor Roll of the Virginia School Boards Association. The Metro Richmond Zoo, Conexus and Dominion Energy were honored for their continued support to help shape community attitudes about public education.

These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Julie Golding, Area 1, Bus 752, seven years of service
  • Cynthia Florence, Area 2, Bus 921, three years of service
  • Kristina Holliday, Area 3, Bus 87, one year of service
  • Carolyn Brown, Area 4, Bus 702, seven years of service

These food service employees were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Deion Gilbert, food service associate at Meadowbrook High, eight years of service
  • Robin Cox, cafeteria manager at Clover Hill High, 12 years of service
  • Maribel Tallman, cafeteria manager at Monacan High, 12 years of service
  • Mary Joiner, cafeteria manager at Beulah Elementary, 21 years of service
  • Laura Fair, cafeteria manager at Chalkley Elementary, 25 years of service

The School Board approved memo #072-23, which recommended that the School Board:

  • Adopt the School Board’s FY 2024 financial plan by appropriation category at attachment A.
  • Adopt a total of $5,138,900 on behalf of Appomattox Regional Governor’s School.
  • Approve the resolution in attachment B requesting that the Board of Supervisors amend the FY 2024 appropriations resolution to reflect only those appropriations categories as shown in attachment A.

The board approved memo #073-23, which recommended that the board adopt the School Board’s FY2024-28 capital improvement plan in attachment A totaling $611,945,500.

The board approved memo #074-23, which recommended that the board approve the 2023-24 local special education annual plan.

The board approved memo #075-23, which recommended that the board approve the referenced revisions to policies and regulations and schedule these to become effective immediately.
