Awards and recognitions

Congratulations to Janine D’Elia, the school system’s secondary science specialist, for winning a James Changer Award from the James River Association.

PR representatives from each school were recognized for volunteering to communicate the innovative work, successes and other good news taking place in their schools every day.

The annual Denim Drive is a partnership among Goodwill, the Chesterfield County Council of PTAs and CCPS that turns jeans into jobs while helping schools. Working to make a difference, schools from across the district collected and donated 4,202 pieces of used denim clothing, which Goodwill will repurpose for use by central Virginia residents. Congratulations to Old Hundred Elementary, Tomahawk Creek Middle and Midlothian High for being recognized as the first place winners.

Learning With You is designed to help members of the multicultural community connect with Chesterfield County Public Schools. Recent participants thanked the School Board for the opportunity.

The School Board adopted a resolution recognizing National School Psychology Week and honoring our district’s 33 full-time school psychologists, two part-time school psychologists and the coordinator of psychological and diagnostic services.

These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Curtis Jackson, Area 1, Bus 790, six years of service
  • Jim Schweyer, Area 2, Bus 727, 13 years of service
  • Marcia Muldoon, Area 3, Bus 582, three months of service
  • Jocelyn Guinyard, Area 4, Bus 843, five years of service
  • Leslie Blanks, Area 5, Bus 89, one year of service

These food service employees were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Willie Joyner, food service associate at Clover Hill High, 19 years of service
  • Tiara Cannedy, assistant manager at Falling Creek Elementary, three months of service
  • Sabina Weis, assistant manager at Marguerite Christian Elementary, eight months of service
  • Shannon Deane, assistant manager at Watkins Elementary, one year of service
  • Lisa Mayfield, cafeteria manager at the Chesterfield Career and Technical Center @ Courthouse, 10 years of service

The board approved memo #158-23, which recommended that the School Board approve the School Board's FY 2024 revised financial plan by appropriation category at attachment A; approve the revenue adjustments and appropriations changes outlined in schedule A; adopt a total of $5,160,100 on behalf of the Appomattox Regional Governor’s School; and, adopt the resolution at attachment C indicating School Board approval of these actions, directing the superintendent to submit the appropriate fiscal data to the county administrator and requesting amendments to the Board of Supervisors adopted FY 2024 budget.

The board approved memo #159-23, which recommended that the board award the custodial services contract to these vendors:

  • ABM: 35 buildings for $9,168,756.78
  • Excel Services: 17 buildings for $5,000,427.56
  • Golden Gate Services: nine buildings for $1,939,522.75
  • HES: eight buildings for $2,719,003.54
