Tim Bullis Celebration of Life will be July 15
Former CCPS communications director Tim Bullis died July 5. He served Chesterfield County Public Schools from 2005 to 2021, leaving to become executive assistant to the president at Randolph-Macon College, his alma mater. Family, friends and colleagues will gather for a celebration of life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 15, at the Career and Technical Center @ Hull, 13900 Hull Street Road. His obituary is available here.
Superintendent Merv Daugherty said: “Tim Bullis, our former colleague and beloved friend, will be missed by so many who enjoyed his friendship, sought his counsel and benefited from his kind heart. For many years while Tim was with Chesterfield Schools, he brought joy to thousands of children and teachers each winter when schools had to close due to snow. While that is how many will remember him, that was just a very small part of his role with our school division. Behind the scenes he was a tremendous leader, he strove for excellence in every arena, and he was a helper in the greatest sense of the word. I know the entire community will feel his loss.”
Let’s Get Ready to Ride! Let Us Know Your Transportation Plans for 2023-24
Transportation planning is underway for the coming school year. All families are asked to update student transportation information by logging into ParentVUE to choose the way students will travel to and from school and to check your home address and any alternative addresses. Easy-to-follow directions for accessing ParentVUE are online, and your student’s school can provide additional assistance.
Transport type: How will your student travel to and from school? Within ParentVUEParentVUE, choose the method that your student will use most of the time.
Addresses: There are two ways to update your student’s address:
School registrar: A student’s home address can only be entered by the registrar at the student’s school.
ParentVUE: Parents/guardians can make changes to transportation information by logging into ParentVUE, clicking the student’s name, then clicking on student info.
Alternative addresses are places students stay before or after school on a regular basis (for example: alternating custodial parent addresses). Families use ParentVUE to update alternative addresses and pickup/drop-off days as often as needed.
Questions: Call the Transportation Department at 804-748-1656.

Get Required Vaccines Before School Starts
Vaccines for incoming kindergarten students
The Virginia Department of Health has shared flyers in English and Spanish regarding required vaccines for students starting kindergarten. Documentation of vaccines must be provided to your school before a student may start school. Learn more about kindergarten registration on the division website.
Vaccine requirements for rising seventh graders
There are some vaccines that students must have before entering seventh grade. Last year, many people had challenges in late summer getting appointments in time for the start of school. Your student may not be able to start school on time if they do not have required immunizations.
Virginia students are required to get these vaccines before entering seventh grade:
Tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap): The Tdap vaccine is required by law for all students entering seventh grade.
Meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY): Students are required to have one dose of MenACWY vaccine before entering seventh grade.
Human papillomavirus (HPV): The HPV vaccine is required by law for students entering seventh grade. After reviewing educational materials approved by the Board of Health, the parent/guardian may elect for their student not to receive the HPV vaccine with no additional paperwork required by Chesterfield County Public Schools. Ask your health-care provider about the benefits of the HPV vaccine.
You can fulfill these vaccine requirements now and mark this item off the back-to-school to-do list. Make a wellness appointment with your health-care provider. Additionally, the Chesterfield County Health Department offers immunizations by appointment only for children age 18 and younger. To schedule an appointment, call 804-748-1750.
Vaccine requirements for high school seniors
There are some vaccines that students must have before entering 12th grades. Your student may not be able to start school on time if they do not have required immunizations. Virginia students must meet the following vaccine requirement before entering 12th grade:
A minimum of two doses of meningococcal conjugate (MenACWY) vaccine are required by law before students enter 12th grade. The first dose should be administered before entering seventh grade. The final dose should be administered before entering 12th grade (given on or after the 16th birthday). Meningococcal vaccines help protect against the bacteria that cause meningococcal disease.
You can fulfill this vaccine requirements now and mark this item off the back-to-school to-do list. Make a wellness appointment with your health-care provider. Additionally, the Chesterfield County Health Department offers immunizations by appointment only for children age 18 and younger. To schedule an appointment, call 804-748-1750.
Middle and High School Families: Take Advantage of Free Tutoring This Summer
Tutoring will remain available throughout the summer. Chesterfield County Public Schools is offering free online tutoring services for students in middle and high school via Stride Tutoring. Head toTutors page to get started:
Students can reserve time for online video meetings with tutors licensed in subject areas in which they need additional support.
Students and families select a tutor based on expertise and availability to fit your schedule, with tutoring available in the evenings and on weekends.
Students do not need a teacher referral to schedule a tutoring session.
There is no limit to the number of tutoring sessions at this time. Tutoring is being offered to provide an additional tool to help secondary students succeed.
