Work session presentations

Administrative appointments

The board approved these changes in assignment:

  • Gillian Anderson, formerly dean of students at Monacan High, is the new assistant principal at Night School.
  • Sabrina Tapley, formerly instructional designer at Marguerite Christian Elementary, is the new assistant principal at Spring Run Elementary.

Awards and recognitions

The board adopted resolutions that recognized February as Black History Month and that recognized February as Career and Technical Education Month.

Congratulations to Bailey Bridge Middle, Robious Middle and Swift Creek Middle for achieving redesignation as Schools to Watch.

Congratulations to Erika Ogier of Salem Church Elementary, who was recognized as the 2023 Virginia Elementary Art Educator of the Year by the Virginia Art Education Association.

Congratulations to music teachers Jenny Ryan of Monacan High, Catherine Hazelwood of James River High and David Yohe of Midlothian Middle for winning awards from the Virginia Music Educators Association.

Congratulations to the four schools and 29 teachers honored by W!se for financial literacy achievements.

 Congratulations to School Counselors of the Year:

  • Outstanding First Year Counselor of the Year: Shenell Tolson (Harrowgate Elementary and Elizabeth Scott Elementary) and Ashlene Jones (Robious Middle)
  • Outstanding Elementary School Counselor of the Year: Maria Bediako (Crestwood Elementary)
  • Outstanding Middle School Counselor of the Year: Balsorah Lynch (Carver Middle)
  • Outstanding High School Counselor of the Year: Merel Williams (Cosby High)

Congratulations to the Department of Management and Budget for winning two awards for FY 2024 budget documents.

 These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Deb Turner, Area 1, Bus 900, four years of service
  • Jed Selph, Area 2, Bus 624, two years of service
  • Simon Howard, Area 3, Bus 858, 16 years of service
  • Daniel Kinser, Area 4, Bus 899, 18 years of service

These food service employees were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Kristen Franck, assistant manager at Bailey Bridge Middle, three years of service
  • Jordan Johnson, food service associate at Beulah Elementary, five years of service
  • Tamara Hillard, food service associate at Marguerite Christian Elementary, eight years of service
  • Keaton Obst, cafeteria manager at Providence Elementary, 14 years of service
  • Tracey Montgomery, cafeteria manager at Falling Creek Middle, 23 years of service

The board approved memo #021-24, which authorized the procurement director to issue purchase orders to Weatherproofing Technologies for roof restoration at Bellwood Elementary, Curtis Elementary and Watkins Elementary.
