Chesterfield County Public Schools has three school buildings under construction:
Falling Creek Middle replacement: The new Falling Creek Middle School will be ready to welcome students at the start of the 2024-25 school year. The photos show the district’s first three-story school (with the current Falling Creek Middle building visible to the side). The new school is designed for 1,800 students. Its 254,000 square feet include 57 general classrooms, 15 science labs and much more.
West area middle school: Construction is progressing on the district’s 13th middle school. This drone footage (taken seven months after the official groundbreaking) shows the west area middle school beginning to take shape. The School Board is in the process of choosing a permanent name for the new school, which will open for students in August 2025.
Davis Elementary replacement: As this drone footage (taken just a month after the official groundbreaking) shows, sitework is well underway for a replacement for Davis Elementary School. The new school is being built next to the current Davis Elementary and will open for students in August 2025.
Virginia Public School Authority bonds are being used to finance both of the middle school buildings. The new elementary building is part of a 2022 community facilities bond plan approved by Chesterfield County voters. (Planning is underway for the other schools in the bond plan: Bensley Elementary replacement, new west area elementary school, Midlothian Middle replacement, new west area high school, Grange Hall Elementary replacement and Thomas Dale High expansion.)
The largest school district in central Virginia, enrollment in Chesterfield County Public Schools is growing because families want their children educated in supportive, innovative schools. More than 64,000 students in prekindergarten through 12th grade attend 67 schools.
