This message was shared with all families and staff of Chesterfield County Public Schools on Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2024.
Dear Chesterfield County Public Schools employees, parents and students,
It saddens me to tell you that a student was stabbed at Meadowbrook High School today. Earlier, I shared the below message with the Meadowbrook school community.

Dear Meadowbrook High employees, parents and students,
This was a traumatic day. A Meadowbrook student was stabbed. It is a lot for all of us to process, as sending our children to school should not be something that promotes questions of their safety or induces anxiety and fear.
But even in the toughest situations, there are moments and people who lift our spirits. I want to thank you for your response to today’s events.
Meadowbrook is a strong community, and you demonstrated that strength. The school administration, faculty and employees worked together, and students remained calm during an unsettling afternoon. Parents and families were understandably worried but stayed focused until reunited with students.
Today’s heroes also included the Chesterfield Police Department, which responded immediately and thoroughly to support Meadowbrook High School. Police officers are strong partners, and we deeply appreciate their ongoing support.
Going forward, it is important that we continue to stay connected to make sure everyone recovers from today’s events. As the school shared earlier this afternoon, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 2), we will have counselors and other mental health professionals available at Meadowbrook High to support students and staff members. If your student needs support, please complete this form so we can best prepare and assist students.
Meadowbrook High will be closed and after-school activities are canceled for tomorrow (Wednesday, Oct. 2).
As a reminder, all Chesterfield County Public Schools will be closed as scheduled on Thursday, Oct. 3.
Thank you again for your support as we seek to ensure every school and every classroom are safe and positive environments.
Respectfully,
Dr. John Murray
Interim Superintendent
