Administrative appointments

Shawn Smith introduced these new administrators:

  • Denise Branscome, director of management and budget

  • Achim Purdy, director of network services

The board approved this new administrator as part of the recommended personnel actions: Eric Garcia is the new assistant principal at Clover Hill High.

Awards and recognitions

Recognizing student success

  • Aimee Voigt was recognized for winning the student video contest sponsored by the Virginia School Boards Association.

  • Clover Hill High, Midlothian High and Matoaca High were recognized for winning Trophy Class designations in the publications contest of the Virginia High School League.

Recognizing school success

Old Hundred Elementary, Tomahawk Creek Middle and Cosby High came out on top of this year’s Denim Drive.

Recognizing staff success

Cosby High, Midlothian High and Monacan High were honored as W!se Blue Star Schools.

Almost 30 high school teachers were honored as W!se Gold Star Teachers.

Three art teachers swept the top regional honors from the Virginia Art Education Association.

These bus drivers were recognized for outstanding performance:

  • Rashida Stokes, Area 1, Bus 290, one year of service

  • David Luzzi, Area 2, Bus 732, two years of service

  • Marianne Mikowski, Area 3, Bus 510, two years of service

  • Patti Floyd, Area 4, Bus 718, nine years of service

  • Keith Highsmith, Area 5, Bus 601, nine months of service

These food service employees were recognized for outstanding service:

  • Ellen Basham, food service associate at Thomas Dale High, three months of service

  • Anastasia Robinson, food service associate at Reams Road Elementary, nine months of service

  • Lillie Earley, food service associate at Swift Creek Middle, two years of service

  • Marilyn De Marco, food service associate at Robious Middle, three years of service

  • Linda Eggleston, food service associate at Marguerite Christian Elementary, four years of service

The School Board recognized the Greater Richmond YMCA for supporting public education.

The board approved memo #171-24, adopting the 2025 legislative program.

The board approved memo #172-24, which allocates year-end funds by category.

The board discussed memo #174-24 and approved redistricting option 2 for the Deep Creek Middle attendance zone. Details are available here.

The board approved memo #175-24, which places Deep Creek Middle and Tomahawk Creek Middle on the tier 1 bell schedule starting with the 2025-26 school year.
