Mr. Jones high-fiving a line of students

The entire Greenfield Elementary School community knows how kind Jeffery Jones is, so he was the only one surprised to learn that he had been chosen as a Virginia Kindness Ambassador.

Students and staff members gathered on Valentine's Day for a special announcement from the Virginia Department of Education in honor of one of Greenfield Elementary’s favorite people. Valentine’s Day fell during Virginia Kindness Week (Feb. 9-15), which was perfect because the Greenfield Elementary gym was vibrating with love and kindness during the presentation.

Jones was one of only 10 selected for an in-person presentation by the Virginia Department of Education. Since joining Greenfield Elementary as a custodian day porter in 2022, he has made a big impression and an even bigger difference in the school community. Here's why the school nominated him as a Virginia Kindness Ambassador:

Jeffery Jones embodies the kind heart of the school community. He does so much more than physically care for the environment. Mr. Jones is beloved by our students. He regularly meets with students who need extra support and encouragement, to play games and give pep talks. During the holidays, he shares his incredible singing talents with the entire school, performing in the cafeteria and on the morning announcements. Students and staff alike look to Mr. Jones as a reassuring presence in our school, always steady and ready to be of service with a hand or a kind word. His daily positive impact on our school makes Mr. Jones deserving of this award.

Several high-fives, fist bumps and hugs followed the announcement, with Jones saying, “These kids here always make my day. What can I say? This is Greenfield, and green is my color.”
